Earth Terminator — day/night simulator

Try the simulator

The solar terminator is the line that, at any given moment, separates the half of the Earth lit by the Sun from the half in darkness. Earth Terminator is an interactive control panel, styled like a cockpit instrument, that visualises this line in real time on a map of the globe, together with the main astronomical data behind it.

This is the first project published in AI-LAB: the entire simulator — calculation logic, interface and style — was generated through a dialogue with an Artificial Intelligence model, with no manual coding involved.

How it was built

The project was built with Claude by Anthropic, starting from a natural-language description of the desired result. The technical stack — HTML, Bootstrap 5, Bootstrap Icons and JavaScript for the astronomical calculations and the vector rendering of the globe — was chosen and implemented entirely by the AI in a single self-contained file, with no server-side dependencies.

What the simulator shows

Technical note

The terminator's position is calculated using simplified astronomical formulas (approximate solar declination and subsolar point), designed for highly readable educational visualisation rather than professional navigation or precision astronomical observation.

AI-LAB publishes exploratory projects: this simulator is not part of Valuemate's commercial services portfolio.
